Torley Wong - Wong Songs (1a)

I am pleased and enthused to be able to personally contribute this collection of my recordings from earlier years to the Internet Archive. Most of this material was composed in the timeframe from 1997-2000, with some of it coming a little later and some even predating those dates -- ideas that were born when I was in elementary school and written down to be used at a later date. This is by no means a complete archive of my work at the time, but I was able to find these recordings thanks to some friends who helped me sort out the MP3s and send them here to be displayed to the public. This old music, while primitive compared to what I am doing now, has a charm from those times in my time that I will never be able to replicate. I feel very sentimental and nostalgic listening to it -- there are a lot of great memories I have associated with these electronic compositions, and I only hope that they may inspire some joy in you as well, or at the very least, a smile on your face
My style of Technomusicology (research into the theoretical and practical applications of electronic music) tends to be melodic, with hummable catchy hooks serving as a very human "anchor" for the more quirky, even experimental underpinnings beneath. I fawn over the familiar, and I adore the alien. It all works together as a cohesive unit because I love variety -- the spice of life! -- and as a humanist, I am thrilled to immerse in diversity of all kinds and recognize the richness of us as unique individuals, and on a smaller scale, I recognize these musical pieces as unique individuals as well... yet all colors of the same rainbow, one whole spectrum. I only hope the credo of PLUR(R): Peace, Love, Unity, Respect, & Responsibility has not gasped its last breath, and that the future holds bright things for us all, humankind.
If you are new to my music and bemused by the number of selections, I recommend you start with these, my personal favorites (although yours may be VERY different, and that's fantastico!) and then continue on your voyage to the present from there:
-A New Piano [radio edit]
-The Chinese Method
I would like to thank Simon C (thanks for answering my query again so efficiently!) and the Internet Archive curators for their work on this project, as well as greenlighting me to go forth and share. And I thank YOU graciously and I hope you enjoy listening to these tracks; there will be more to come, I can most certainly assure you of that. ;) (to note, a supplementary collection of miscellaneous recordings, including a hand-picked variety of incomplete works-in-progress under the header of "Torley Wong - Wong Songs 1b" will be uploaded in due time.)
Bon appetit! If music be the food of love, play on.
Signed, your ally in the war against unhappiness,

I discovered Torley Wong years ago, when MP3.com
was still new. I lost all of his music when I lost my hard drive, and I was very dissapointed to discover that MP3.com
was also down for remodel. Now, here is the music I fell in love with - a positive, energetic blend of classical, new age, and dance/techno. This is what music is all about!

I really enjoy Wong's music. I would describe it as 'epic' techno. Most of the songs have a larger than life quality.
I would pick The Favor Of God, and Thoughts and Feelings as my two favorites, from this particular listing.
